Woodstock 50 Organisers & Financial Partners At Odds Surrounding Cancellation Claim

'There is going to be a Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival, as there must be, and it’s going to be a blast.'

Organisers of the Woodstock 50 festival have insisted the event will go despite its financial partners' claims that it has been cancelled

As Variety reports, Woodstock 50's Japanese financial partners Dentsu Aegis released a statement on Monday saying that the company had “decided to cancel the festival", however just hours later festival organisers denied the claim in their own statement.

“We are committed to ensuring that the 50th Anniversary of Woodstock is marked with a festival deserving of its iconic name and place in American history and culture," a statement issued by organisers, including co-founder Michael Lang, reads.

"Although our financial partner is withdrawing,  we will of course be continuing with the planning of the festival and intend to bring on new partners. We would like to acknowledge the State of New York and Schuyler County for all of their hard work and support.

"The bottom line is, there is going to be a Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival, as there must be, and it’s going to be a blast.”

The three-day festival, scheduled to take place in New York from 16-18 August, was organised to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic 1969 event.

Some of the acts confirmed on the bill included JAY-Z, The Killers, Halsey, Janelle Monae, Robert Plant and Australia's own Courtney Barnett and Brian Cadd.
