Congrats to all the winners!

The annual West Australian Music (WAM) Song Of the Year awards kicked off last night - with the best in WA's illustrious music scene being celebrated throughout a multitude of styles and genres.

Alt-country singer/songwriter Siobhan Cotchin took out the grand prize for her jangling indie tune Just The Way It Is, with Timothy Nelson returning this year for the Runner Up prize with his track, Biding Time. Nelson won the Upper Secondary Prize all the way back in 2007 while he was still a student.

Speaking of which, high school rockers Detour nabbed double nods for their track, Left Shoe. The band took out Second Runner Up honours as well as winning in the Schools 15-18 Years category.

87-year old Peter Salmon was one of the oldest recipients in the award's history last night. Along with his band, Warralgurniya, they took out the top spot for the Global category with their song Warri Yungu, Warri Baba.
