WAM start search for new CEO

West Australia's peak contemporary music industry body WAM are looking for a new CEO after current boss Wendy Were accepted a role at the Australia Council For The Arts.

Were will become the Australia Council's Executive Director, Arts Development, the news coming just weeks before WAM make their rebrand and redirection with the WAM Awards and Conference. Were has been credited with a number of these changes after joining WAM in early 2012.

“It has been an enormous privilege to guide WAM through this evolution,” Were said. “I took up the role at WAM because I have enjoyed an ongoing love affair with WA contemporary music since my early teens. It has enriched my life on so many levels and is the soundtrack to my memories.

“I have a deep appreciation for the arts across the board, but contemporary music really is an exceptional vehicle for artistic engagement. It connects across age, gender, socio-economic background, ethnicity and race. When it comes to community development and social impact, few art forms can match its power.”
