WagonsCountry rock storyteller Henry Wagons has delivered the first track from the new Wagons record, and it's a bit of a change in sound.
Moving away from the straight country murder ballads, Why Do You Always Cry carries the dark psych soul of the '60s – it's very Scott Walker. It comes from Acid Rain & Sugar Cane, which was produced by Mick Harvey and will be released Friday 16 May through Spunk Records.
“Why Do You Always Cry was the first song I wrote for the record, so it's fitting it's also the first track people are going to hear,” says Wagons.
“It's a real rollercoaster ride of a track… The bare bones of this track were recorded totally live, all in the one room, moving lots of air around, including the vocal, and I think that thankfully comes across in the recording.”
Of the clip he added, “I often feel I have the best view of the band when we are playing live on stage, so in holding the camera myself, I also wanted to let people in on my brutal, but amazing front row seat!”
