What do you get when you put Vv Pete, Avril Lavigne and Liam Neeson’s ‘Taken’ trilogy into one song? The hottest track of the year, obviously.

Western Sydney artist Vv Pete has let her presence be known on her vivacious new single TAKEN.

Inspired by the Liam Neeson-starring action film trilogy of the same name, TAKEN is one of two new bits of music the Varvies have been treated to this year (outside of the epic reworks and remixes of Vv’s song’s Mashallah and Jordan 1s and Vv’s guest spot on Sydney-born, Berlin-based music producer Logic1000’s EP mother:;~rebirth).

In classic Vv Pete nature, TAKEN is a callout to all the girls outside who are holding firmly onto the arms of their boyfriend, letting them know that “I might take your man”.

The song opens with Vv Pete chanting that exact line over a chopped and screwed Avril Lavigne sample, teasing newfound punk territory. However, as the song progresses, the bass meets the Vv’s witty and unapologetic lyricism, churning out yet another iconic, catchy and effervescently and authentically-Vv Pete tune. TAKEN is produced by collaborator and Trackwork label founder UTILITY, who has drawn on the sounds of Jersey club and drill to emphasise the power and dominance behind Vv Pete’s delivery.

In a new visualiser for the song, Vv can be seen looking out at loved up couples on the beach, staring down the scope of a gun to fish out which man will be her next prize, adding to the menacing and thrilling assassin-inspired nature of the track.
