Village People Trademark Under Question Amidst Current Aussie Tour

The trademark to the Village People band name is allegedly the subject of litigation as the two groups claiming to be the real deal are at odds, following disastrous reviews of their current Australian tour. 

The 'Official Village People' Facebook page, noted to be 'Village People featuring Ray Simpson' has issued an apology to fans about the current outfit touring the country, which is being led by original singer Victor Willis who rejoined the group after 25 years.

"To our dear and loyal fans, let us reiterate that Alex, Felipe, Ray, Eric, Bill and Jim are not the group performing as Village People in Australia," the statement reads.

"We still look and sound great. Please don't judge us by what you are now seeing and reading. We are sorry if anyone has been deceived."

Both the 'Official' and 'Real' Village People Facebook pages released statements this week stating that the trademark is now the subject of litigation. 

The Willis-led Village People, who are currently touring with KC & The Sunshine Band and Sister Sledge, have been received poorly by fans and critics. Many slammed their Perth show while reviews for their Melbourne gig on Tuesday night were even worse. 

According to The Age, their dance moves at the Margaret Court Arena concert "seemed thoroughly unrehearsed", while at one point during the show, Willis oddly walked offstage mid-song, only to return soon after without explanation or apology.

The band also cancelled last Sunday's A Day On The Green at Rochford Wines, reportedly due to Willis falling ill.
