"We all make such deep connections with the songs that we love."
Aus music icon Jimmy Barnes has thrown his voice and support behind the #SHAREASONG campaign - a new initiative to raise awareness for Dementia Action Week.
Championed by music-based brain-training software Vera, the campaign urges Australians to share the most important and influential songs from their lives that are associated with their favourite and most vivid memories. Supported by the likes of Universal Music Group, YouTube, Jaxsta, Amazon Music, AIM, ARIA, and Facebook, as well as famous faces such as Barnes and comedian Matt Okine, #SHAREASONG aims to showcase the immensely powerful connection humans have to music.
“I’m very pleased to add my voice to supporting #SHAREASONG,” the legendary Cold Chisel frontman explained.
“Like so many families, ours has had to deal with losing loved ones to dementia. Music seems to be one of the few ways of still reaching them as they slip away because we all make such deep connections with the songs that we love. There’s nothing like music to lift our spirits so get behind #SHAREASONG and send some good feelings to the people you love.”
ARIA CEO Annabelle Heard also shared her support for the campaign, stating, “On behalf of everyone at ARIA and PPCA, we’re asking the nation to please #SHAREASONG from this September 21, and support an incredible initiative raising awareness for those suffering from dementia.
"We all have one song that holds a special place – for me it’s Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out of My Head – join us in highlighting the amazing role music plays in our lives and memories, and help champion an amazing cause."
