Massive acts join the prestigious list.

An eclectic and iconic mix of acts have been announced as 2017 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Inductees today including late rapper Tupac, legendary rock outfits Pearl Jam and Journey and acclaimed songwriter Joan Baez.

As Billboard reports, beloved UK group Electric Light Orchestra and three—time nominees Yes round up the class of 2017.

The induction, taking place at Brooklyn's Barclay Center on 7 April, will also see Chic frontman Nile Rodgers receive an Award for Musical Excellence.

A number of the acts have since spoken out publicly since the huge announcement, while a statement on behalf of Tupac's estate was also released.

"This award recognizes how Tupac’s message of change and mission to give a voice to those who didn’t have one continues to resonate with millions of people to this day," the Facebook post reads.

"You are the reason Tupac’s legacy lives on."

Journey also took to Facebook earlier today, writing, "We are humbled to be included in such impressive company and grateful to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for this extraordinary honor".

Yes guitarist Steve Howe said in an online statement, "What an honor this is for us and all involved with the history of this band.

"We thank all the Yes fans who have been so passionate over the decades, and helped us to keep the flag flying. It is the fans who have constantly demanded our inclusion. They have been heard."

Baez said, "I never considered myself to be a rock and roll artist.

"But as part of the folk music boom which contributed to and influenced the rock revolution of the Sixties, I am proud that some of the songs I sang made their way into the rock lexicon. I very much appreciate this honor and acknowledgement by the Hall of Fame."

The new inductees join a list that boasts the likes of Michael Jackson, David Bowie, Elvis Presley, ABBA, Madonna, Patti Smith and The Rolling Stones.
