Band manager has confirmed the rock legend's passing.

Rock legend Tom Petty has died in a Santa Monica hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on Sunday night

According to TMZ, Petty's longtime manager, Tony Dimitriades, confirmed that the singer passed away at 8.40 PM PT at UCLA hospital surrounded by friends, family and his bandmates after his family made the decision to take him off life support.

The celebrated frontman was found unconscious, not breathing and in full cardiac arrest in his Malibu home when he was rushed the hospital.

Other global hit singles from the band include American Girl, I Won't Back Down, Refugee and Breakdown.

Just last week, the group wrapped up their 40th anniversary tour at the Hollywood Bowl in LA.
