Ticketmaster Australia has revealed a data breach across the weekend resulted in customers' personal and payment information being accessed by an unknown third-party.
As a statement from the company reads, the breach was discovered on Saturday by Ticketmaster UK and affected 5% of their global customer base, minus North America, but including Australia.
Hackers reportedly gained access to names, addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers, payment details and Ticketmaster login details.
Any Australian customers who attempted to purchase tickets between September 2017 and June 23, 2018 may have been affected, with Ticketmaster in the process of contacting those people via email.
With a number of massive tours hitting Australia this year, including Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Pink and Katy Perry, and Ed Sheeran and Paul McCartney touring the country in recent months, thousands of Australians would have been purchasing tickets throughout that period.
“Forensic teams and security experts are working around the clock to understand how the data was compromised,” Ticketmaster said.
“We are working with relevant authorities, as well as credit card companies and banks.”
Ticketmaster customers will be required to reset their password the next time they login into their account; the company is also offering a free identity monitoring service to anyone impacted by the breach.
