This Week's Releases

As well as Dustin Tebbutt, Jack Carty, Storm The Sky and more...

Montaigne — Glorious Heights (Wonderlick/Sony)

With a more "poppy" sensibility, "catchy hooks and a danceability that will prove very palatable to a more mainstream audience", Montaigne's "sublime voice" still manages to cut through the "full-scale production". The album is "raw, emotive and infectious" and "she's not afraid to get dark with her sound, rejecting the notion that pop music needs to be inoffensive, mindless drivel". We gave it four stars and Album Of The Week.

Bernard Fanning — Civil Dusk (Dew Process/Universal)

Ahead of fourth record Brutal Dawn, Civil Dusk is "his latest voyage of self discovery" in which "he sounds kinda bored, not knowing whether to kick around a country pub (on the half pissed What A Man Wants) or rocking out a horrible Status Quo pastiche (on Change Of Pace)". With "mesmerising" lyrical unrest, we gave Civil Dusk three stars.

Kylie AuldistFamily Tree (6834)

Family Tree is "an authentic celebration of an enviable record collection", where you'll hear snippets of "Chaka Khan's grooves" and "lashes of Whitney Houston's '80s heyday", all while packaged within Auldist's "electro-soul diva". You'll even find Ron Burgundy's "bonafide jazz flute" and a "fly Grandmaster Flash-style rap" in Good Time Girl. We gave it three-and-a-half stars.
