Every Time I Die, Passenger, Beach Slang, Tash Sultana and more

Every Time I Die Low Teens (Epitaph/Warner)

Every Time I Die's ferocity is not winding down despite their 20 years in the business — "vocalist Keith Buckley is pure savagery across nearly all tracks with his vocal approach, filthy and guttural". They "kick speakers under" with songs like Fear & Trembling before bringing "a throbbing melodic breakdown" to The Coin Has A Say. This is "undoubtedly their best release to date". We gave it four stars and our Album Of The Week.

Beach Slang  A Loud Bash Of Teenage Feelings (Cooking Vinyl)

The album title "fully reflects" what this album is — "It promises, it delivers". Highlights include Atom Bombs, Spin The Dial and Young Hearts, the latter "a sunset in song form". Taking apart "broken hearts, sex, drugs and rock'n'roll" as well as "completely effing yourself up on illicit substances", the album lets Beach Slang "[pave] themselves a yellow brick road into the future". We gave it three stars.

Devendra Banhart — Ape In Pink Marble (Nonesuch/Warner)

Ape In Pink Marble is "Banhart's most relaxed opus to date", seeming like it was "thrown together quite spontaneously, revealing Banhart's idiosyncrasies and quirky charms". It's "hard to see" songs like Middle Names "dominate the airwaves" but "the overall sound of Mourner's Dance and Saturday Night ... might appeal to anyone who's made friends with the new Frank Ocean record". We gave it three stars.
