Thrills, spills, not enough women and the end of Girls. Oh, what a week.

What a week; Queensland wins its seventh State Of Origin title in a row, drugs rock the world of cycling, something mildly interesting probably happened in the tennis and the world outside of sport went on exactly as per usual.

Well the music world is where we spend our lives, and here are a few of the more interesting things that happened from our perspective.

We ranked the 50 most powerful music industry figures, with Michael Gudinski filling position number one. Some people made the comment that there weren't enough women in the list, so we asked Rae Harvey to give her thoughts on the matter.

We annoyed a bunch of Japandroids fans by leaving them out of our best albums of the year so far.

It's looking like San Francisco's excellent Girls won't be giving us any more music, sadly, as Christopher Owens ends his involvement via Twitter. In other sad news, it appears as if the All Tomorrow's Parties promoters have been having some financial issues. A real shame given their pull among certain boutique and often disbanded acts.

There were almighty festival and tour announcements this week; Falls and Southbound unleashed some incredible line ups, while Stereosonic is likely to have its biggest year yet with a bill of this magnitude.

The Living End are playing seven nights in a row in most of the capital cities around the country, giving us all of their records in full in intimate venues.

Go out and see a show this weekend, ya mongrel.
