"I really wanted to write a nostalgic feeling ‘driving’ song, which I hope we nailed!"
Gamilaraay singer-songwriter Thelma Plum has dropped Backseat Of My Mind, her first original music since 2019.
The reflective new track follows on from widely acclaimed album Better In Blak and arrives ahead of a slew of tour dates.
“I’ve spent a lot of time in vans (although not recently lol) and I really wanted to write a nostalgic feeling ‘driving’ song, which I hope we nailed!” Plum said.
“It’s been so fun to play live I can’t wait for people to hear the recorded version!”
A storied record of culture, heritage, love and pain, Better In Blak was nominated for seven ARIAs, while single Not Angry Anymore went Gold and its title track landed at #9 in the Hottest 100 and won the prestigious Vanda & Young Song Of The Year award.

Upon taking out the Vanda & Young prize, Plum noted: "My heartfelt thanks to Alex Burnett and Oli Horton for their creativity and to everyone who connected to a song that is deeply personal, written when I was feeling very alone. I don't feel alone today.”
Thelma Plum’s The Making It Up To You Tour kicks off tonight in Gosford, before she joins Paul Kelly as part of Vivid LIVE in Sydney and then supports Vance Joy across the country in October.
