The Triffid To Celebrate Their 10th Birthday With Five Days Of Events
November’s ‘Banger in the Hangar’ is about to go off.

One of Brisbane’s most iconic venues, The Triffid, is turning 10 this year. To celebrate, they’re throwing a “Banger in the Hangar” - five days straight of events.
The party is set to kick off on Wednesday November 13, with The Triffid’s QLD Album of the Year Party. With the competition tight between all the nominees - Asha Jefferies’ Ego Ride, Clea’s Idle Light, Girl & Girl’s Call A Doctor, Radium Dolls’ Legal Speed, and The Dreggs’ Caught In A Reverie - it’s sure to be a nailbiter. There’ll also be performances by The Grates’ Patience Hodgson and The Faux Betweens - made up of members of Ball Park Music, The Creases, Full Flower Moon Band, Simi Lacroix, and more.
An honour for nominees, the winning album will be placed on the Hero Wall and join icons like Regurgitator, Powderfinger, Violent Soho, and The Go-Betweens at the free event open to the public. The winning artist will also receive a $2,500 marketing package from The Music and a rehearsal day in The Triffid Live Room. Thursday November 14 will see UK indie smashers Yard Act performing at the venue, while the 15th will host a legend of the UK rave scene, Tall Paul, inside the hangar. He’ll be joined by four of Brisbane’s most iconic old-school rave DJs - Jen-E, Barking Boy, Darren Briais, and Rousey. Outside in the beer garden, Sundowners will perform alongside Novel D.

Saturday’s event will be one to bring the kids to, with family fun day locked in for November 16. A Small Fry Rock gig is set to take place in the morning, with Dan Sultan headlining and the Radium Dolls supporting acoustically. LA-based Matt Hansen will then take over inside the venue that night, while Asha Jeffries, Lottie McLeod, and Neish play the beer garden.
Finally, the celebrations will wrap up on Sunday November 17, when American indie-pop band Real Estate play at the hangar and Clare Cowley, Suicide Country Hour and Mojo Webb bring the vibes to the beer garden.
In a press release, The Triffid founder/owner - and former Powderfinger bassist - John Collins spoke on how The Triffid has nurtured local talent: “It’s been incredible to have iconic acts like Glass Animals, Simple Plan, and Violent Femmes come through our doors. But for me, the real magic is watching local talent like Dune Rats, Ball Park Music, and The Chats start out at The Triffid and make waves through the industry.
“The last 10 years have been an amazing journey - we're excited to keep it going for another 10 years.”
