It’s been another incredible year for local music so far, and next month, The Triffid will celebrate the 2025 Queensland Album of the Year.

Today, the beloved Brisbane venue has revealed five Queensland artists who have been nominated for this year’s Album of the Year award. Spanning rock, indie, and electronic music, this year’s nominees are Full Flower Moon Band with Megaflower, Sycco’s Zorb, King Stingray’s For The Dreams, Mallrat’s Light hit my face like a straight right, and Velociraptor’s Computer Future.

Presented in partnership with The Music, deciding on the Queensland Album of the Year is put to the people. Public voting is now open until 5 pm AEST on Friday, 21 November. Head to The Music to have your say about who should win this year’s coveted award.

The winner will be revealed at The Triffid in Brisbane/Meanjin on Thursday, 27 November. Announcing the winner in true Triffid style, the champion will receive a banner drop before taking their place on the venue’s Hero Wall alongside local legends Powderfinger, Violent Soho, Cub Sport, and The Go-Betweens.

The winning artist is also set to receive a $3,800 marketing package from The Music, as well as a rehearsal day in The Triffid’s Live Room. By casting your vote, you’ll also be in with a shot to win big, with a double pass to this year’s Spilt Milk Festival, starring Kendrick Lamar, Doechii, Dominic Fike, Sara Landry, and others up for grabs.

If you want to attend the award ceremony, the event is free, so head down to The Triffid next month to be a part of the big day.

Last year, The Dreggs took out the Queensland Album of the Year with their debut album, Caught In A Reverie. With their win, they joined previous winners The Chats, Tia Gostelow, Beddy Rays, Busby Marou, and more.

“We’ve never been invited to something like this, and we’ve never really won any awards either. We should’ve prepared a speech,” the duo said upon accepting the award. “To all the punters out there, we fucking love you. To all the musos out there, keep fucking doing it. It’s hard… we’re independent, we almost went bankrupt, but now we’re here and so grateful. This is unreal. Thank you.”

Now, it’s someone else’s turn to take home the win.
