At this point, triple j’s annual Hottest 100 countdown might as well be an official, government-recognised national holiday – few events unite Australians so passionately over something so wholesome and fun (unless you’re one of those people that get waaaaaay too into it, in which case… actually no, you do you, we totally understand).

If you’re spending this year’s Hottest 100 Day – Saturday January 27 – in the sunkissed wonderland that is Brisbane (Meanjin), and you're looking for a free way to make the most of the event, then seek no longer, for The Triffid has you covered. Their annual Hottest 100 party will return once more in 2024, bringing good vibes en masse with their signature Hottest 100 bingo, a bevy of drink specials (pun intended) and much more.

There will also be live entertainment held in the venue’s beer garden – details for that are yet to be confirmed, so we’d advise you keep an eye out on the official Facebook event page (where you should also invite all your mates – and that one cool aunt you have, because why not, hey?). You can also head to the Triffid website here for more info.

Nevertheless, this year’s Hottest 100 party at the Triffid will kick off at 11am, and once more, it’s completely free to attend. Last year, the winner of the aforementioned bingo game won a double pass to any show held at The Triffid throughout 2023, as well as a merch pack and a free drink voucher. There were also prizes honoured to the day’s biggest beer pong and jug-holding champions, and the venue’s bandroom was converted into a handball arena.

This year’s triple j Hottest 100 will kick off at 12pm AEDT on Saturday January 27, followed by the Hottest 200 – counting down the 100 songs that missed out on the main event – at 10am the following day (January 28). Head here to read all about this year’s edition of the annual bonanza.

Last week, we saw “the internet’s most accurate” predictors of the Hottest 100, Warm Tunas, drop a full list of hat-tips for their expected Top 50. Upon launching this year’s list, they predicted this year’s #1 spot to be reserved for Boygenius and their folky emo hit Not Strong Enough. Also tipped for key spots in the countdown are local legends like Lime Cordiale, G Flip, King Stingray, Genesis Owusu, Angie McMahon and Spacey Jane.
