The Cult's Billy Duffy Wasn't A Fan Of Roger Waters' Anti-Trump Set At Desert Trip

'Is he even an American?'

More The Cult The Cult Profile

Iconic artist and Pink Floyd co-founder Roger Waters had a lot of people talking after his headline set at California's Desert Trip festival this month as it contained some pretty blatant anti-Donald Trump imagery and while many lapped it up, it appears not everyone thought it was a hit, including fellow UK musician and The Cult guitarist, Billy Duffy.

Set to tour Australia with the band next month, Duffy spoke to The Music from the US where the group have just finished a string of shows and where all the talk is centred on the upcoming presidential election.

"I just tune all that stuff out," the 55-year-old songwriter said.

"I mean, it’s fairly bonkers. It’s a bit too crazy for me. I’ve always been quite apolitical, you know, so I mean if you’re into it, great."

When Waters' politically-driven festival gig was brought into the conversation, Duffy responded, "Well, yeah, I mean, is he even an American?"

During Waters' performance of Pink Floyd's Pigs (Three Different Ones), the words "Trump Is A Pig" was shown on a screen behind him, while visions of Trump were also shown next to phrases such as "racist", "ignorant", "lying", "sexist" and "Fuck Trump and his wall".

"He’s English so what’s he goin’ on about?" Duffy continued.

"I’d worry more about Britain if I was Roger. I wonder where Roger lives? He probably lives in a castle somewhere."
