Just two days after Tex Perkins teased fans with the following message: “The honeymoon ain’t over baby” on social media, The Cruel Sea have surprise announced a 30th-anniversary Australian tour celebrating The Honeymoon Is Over.
The band’s third album featured the radio-charting singles The Honeymoon Is Over and Black Stick. The 1993 record saw The Cruel Sea go on to win five ARIA Music Awards at the 1994 ceremony, including Single Of The Year and Song Of The Year for The Honeymoon Is Over, Album Of The Year, Best Group and Producer Of The Year for Tony Cohen, whose resume included The Birthday Party, Powderfinger, Paul Kelly, and more.
This morning’s announcement follows The Cruel Sea’s May announcement of The Honeymoon Is Over being reissued on CD and coming to vinyl for the first time.
This November and December, The Cruel Sea – members Tex Perkins (vocalist), drummer Jim Elliott, bassist Ken Gormly and guitarist Dan Rumour will reunite alongside Matt Walker (guitar, keyboards), who will be filling in for the late, beloved James Cruickshank.
According to a press release, fans will be hearing hits from The Honeymoon Is Over and a bunch of fan-favourite numbers. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased from 10 am on Tuesday, 29 August, until 9 am on Thursday, 31 August.
You can find tickets from all the venue websites; all the venues are below. More information is available on Tex Perkins’ website.

“Well, I’m not sure what I’ve done, but life keeps handing me gifts,” Perkins revealed in a statement. “Being a musician, the greatest gifts I can get involve people and Music. But really, what else is there? To play with The Cruel Sea was something I wasn’t sure would ever happen again. But believe me, it’s happening.”
Perkins continued, “Rehearsals have been powerful, emotional, and joyful! The Cruel Sea have a sound that can’t be found anywhere else! (I still feel like a guest singer). I love that sound, and I love the guys that make it! And I can’t wait to share this with you all! See you soon, yeah?”
