Melbourne hardcore band Terminal Sleep have pulled out of two upcoming festival appearances due to drummer Todd Tombleson’s “long-term spinal injury,” which requires surgery.

The group shared the news on social media on Thursday afternoon (22 January), revealing that they’d no longer appear at Froth & Fury Fest, taking place in Perth and Adelaide today (24 January) and next Saturday (31 January). They also cancelled their appearance at Life’s A Beach Festival, a one-off beach party hosted by Polaris in Melbourne next month (14 February).

Filling their spot at Froth And Fury are two acts - Werewolves in Perth, and Algor Mortis in Adelaide. At Life’s A Beach, Melbourne emerging heavy act HEAVENSGATE have joined the bill.

Issuing an update about the festival cancellations, the band wrote, “We are very sad to share that we will not be appearing at Froth and Fury or Life’s A Beach over this coming month. Our drummer, Todd, has a long-term spinal injury that has deteriorated significantly recently, and he requires surgery.”

They continued, “As a band, we believe in prioritising health and wellbeing, and with some time, we will be back at full strength. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to playing again (with new music…).”

The band concluded the post on a lighter note, telling fans to swipe through the photos to see the MRI of Tombleson’s “cursed” back.

Terminal Sleep’s most recent single, They Circle Below, was released via Nuclear Blast Recordstheir new label home – last July.

On their signing, the band said, “It is a privilege to be welcomed into the family amongst so many legendary bands we grew up listening to, and fresh new bands we have on repeat. We could not be more excited to bring in the new era of Terminal Sleep with Tommy [Jones] and the whole team at Nuclear Blast!”

Nuclear Blast American Label Manager & A&R Tommy Jones added, “Last year, a pal of mine hit me with a link and said, ‘Check this out.’ It was to a few unreleased songs by Terminal Sleep from Melbourne, Australia. One listen, and a bit of research, and I was all the way in!

“Last January, I saw the TS crew from down under in Hamburg, Germany… and holy hopping kangaroos, I was completely blown away! [Vocalist] Bec [Thorwesten] was in full-on beast mode, and I thought she was going to eliminate the entire room—a must-see. I am ecstatic to usher in Terminal Sleep to the worldwide Nuclear Blast family! LFG, don’t sleep!”
