Nine years after their first full-length, the trip-hop/dream-pop enigmas get concrete about a follow-up

More Team Sleep More Team Sleep

Briefly-lived trip-hop/alt-slash-post-rock cult icons Team Sleep have announced their return to active duty and, excitingly, confirmed that they are working on their long-awaited sophomore full-length, with a post on Facebook conveying the news yesterday and asking fans to help bring it to life.

"Dear friends, Please join us as we create our next record in Woodstock, New York," the band wrote in their post. "We’ll gather at Applehead studio, near the base of the Catskill mountains to eat, write, play and record.

"For a long time, business people, logistics, careers, adulthood, families and the House Republicans have thwarted us, but we’ve continued to make music. At the same time, the creative process has become increasingly fragmented and dehumanized.

"With that in mind, we’re very excited to get together with our dear friends, hang out, play music and have a unique experience in a beautiful place. We’d like you to be there, too. Your participation will be essential to the independent creation and release of the live performance and our forthcoming studio record."

Team Sleep, which consists of guitarist Todd Wilkinson, turntablist DJ Crook, bassist/keyboardist Rick Verrett, the mysterious Chuck X, drummer Zach Hill (he of Death Grips infamy) and Deftones frontman Chino Moreno, released their sole, self-titled, album in 2005, featuring guest vocal work from Helium's Mary Timony and the prodigiously talented Rob Crow (Pinback, Goblin Cock).

Although they've been talking about putting out a follow-up since as early as 2007 (when they mentioned it on Myspace), as their post indicated, life has generally found a way of throwing up several obstacles to that end for the past seven years. But none of that matters, now — Team Sleep's second full-length album is definitely happening, and the statement exists to prove it.

Excuse us, we need to put on a classic and smooth-jive our way through the rest of the day.
