More Tash Sultana More Tash Sultana

As Tash Sultana prepares the release of their forthcoming Return To The Roots EP later this month, the acclaimed artist has added an international flair to their latest single, recruiting City And Colour for the track.

Titled Ain’t It Kinda Funny, the collaborative single sees Tash and City And Colour’s Dallas Green teaming up for a track that extends back to the former’s early musical efforts. Written while Tash was a teenager, it began life as an acoustic piece born out of deep admiration for names like Jeff Buckley, Bon Iver, and City And Colour.

As Tash explains, the track has now been revived, reimagined, and reshaped to reflect who they are, not just an artist, but a person on the verge of turning 30. “That looming milestone makes you reflect,” Tash says.

“There’s this pressure that you’ve somehow ‘aged out’, but it’s all bullshit. 30’s young. Life’s only getting better. I wouldn’t relive my early 20s for anything — and that realisation bled straight into this song.”

Together, Tash and Green work together to craft a track that is equally sentimental and reflective, while providing fresh perspective with complementary insights.

“Working with Tash was an absolute joy. We first connected last year and hit it off right away,” Green recalls. “That first impression led to me visiting their studio in Australia and eventually creating this song together.

This June, Tash will embark on a massive tour of the US in support of Return To The Roots with special guests Lime Cordiale. Their show at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre sold out in minutes.

Tash’s most recent album, Terra Firma, arrived in 2021 and became their first to top the Aussie charts. In 2023, they released the Sugar EP, which featured singles such as James Dean, New York, and Bitter Lovers – the latter a collaboration with BJ The Chicago Kid.
