As Naarm/Melbourne artist Suzi continues her rapid ascent, the acclaimed musician has now taken things up another notch with the release of her debut album.
Set for release on September 12th, Patchwork is the culmination of many years spent as one of Australia’s finest songwriters and performers. “I have never worked harder on anything in my whole entire life,” Suzi admitted.
Having first emerged onto the scene in 2020, Suzi’s pop-influenced indie rock numbers soon found a massive audience, and some viral fame ensued. Following tours around the country in support of names such as Hobo Johnson, Sly Withers, Tigers Jaw, Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers, and Mom Jeans, Suzi’s time away undoubtedly left her voracious fanbase eager for last year’s return.
This year has already brought with it tracks such as the anthemic Centrelink Summer, and huge supports for the likes of The Wonder Years and Kisschasy, and now the release of Patchwork will serve as the fitting next step in a career for one of the country’s most promising artists.
The record’s final single – One Way Ticket – will arrive in a few weeks, on August 15th, and provides an insight into the overarching themes of the album as it speaks to topics of relationship breakdowns, a reclamation of agency, and the journey towards healing.
“[It’s] about loving someone or something that is going nowhere. It's about accepting that sometimes letting go is the only thing you can do,” Suzi admits, noting that the song is “the perfect representation of the growth I have felt over the past two years of intensive touring and writing.”
