19 August 2014 | 12:44 pm | Staff Writer

It's the first new solo release from the Dinosaur Jr mastermind since 2011

He may be pushing 50, but there's no slowing down for widely revered veteran muso J Mascis, who will celebrate the release of his sixth solo full-length, Tied To A Star, on August 29.

Before that happens, theMusic.com.au is thrilled to be able to present to you this premiere stream of the goodies contained within, which includes special guest appearances from the likes of Ken Maiuri, Pall Jenkins, Mark Mulcahy and Chan Marshall, aka Cat Power — and, if you're already familiar with the life and work of Mr Mascis, that should be more than enough to get you pumped to hear his first solo work since 2011's acclaimed LP Several Shades Of Why.

If you're not familiar, the CliffsNotes version involves a celebrated, sometimes tumultuous, decades-spanning career with indie icons Dinosaur Jr, for whom he played guitar and served as primary songwriter, as well as engaging in several other variously successful collaborations and projects, including heavy metal outfit Witch and a few releases in the early 2000s under the J Mascis + The Fog banner.

That's all history, though — instead, turn your eyes and ears to the future, have a watch of the trailer video below, and then get among the new goods on Tied To A Star, right here, right now.
