With Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore set to tour as part of the Melbourne Festival and rumours circulating that The Stone Roses will tour Australia by the end of summer, theMusic.com.au has caught sets by both acts at Norway's Oya Festival.
Taking place at the moment, Sevana Ohandjanian drew the long straw as is currently on ground at the festival and reporting back.
With her review of day one now published, headliners The Stone Roses - the iconic Manchester band who are recently reformed - were the standout act of the day.
"The setlist was a roll call of anthemic tunes," she writes. "Drifting from the hazy Made Of Stone to Waterfall being seamlessly interwoven with Don't Stop, boisterous voices rose from the audience on Brown's command. This Is The One saw a sea of pointed fingers reaching towards the sky, before I Am The Resurrection swept through the festival, with all joining into the refrain of "I am the resurrection and I am a lie'."
However it wasn't all 'joyous grins', Thurston Moore's set seemed to suffer from the decidedly un-Norwegian heat, according to our scribe.
"Maybe he was having an off day, or maybe the torturously hot sun was playing tricks on our minds, but Moore wasn't at his finest," reads the review. "As the first song dragged into an extended guitar solo – wherein solo means Moore vigorously strumming the same note with reverb – many began making the migration to Mazzy Star."
The first day also featured Willis Earl Beal, Bob Mould, Florence + The Machine and Mazzy Star.
