Again in Brisbane, but no Melbourne after last year's controversy

Local urban event Sprung Hip Hop Festival has announced its date and venue for 2014, but will not attempt to expand into Melbourne again, after last year's cancellation.

The festival will take place in Brisbane for another year at Eatons Hill Hotel in the outdoor area on Friday 20 September, it was revealed on the event's Facebook today.

“After Sprung's attempt at expansion into Melbourne unfortunately met with licensing and venue issues leading to the cancellation of the Melbourne show, the Sprung crew have stepped back from their plans of potential cat stroking world domination and decided to put an all in effort into continuing to make SPRUNG Brisbane the must see calendar event that it has been for the past 3 yrs running,” the post read.

TheMusic.com.au exclusively broke the story of the Melbourne cancellation just weeks before the event was to be held for the very first time in the Victorian capital, after issues with the venue caused police to withdraw their support of the festival.

Sprung went as planned in Brisbane last year, with the likes of 360, Drapht, Allday and Seth Sentry performing. This year's line-up is expected to drop later this month.
