Eora-based experimental post-punk and hip hop group Shady Nasty have provided insights into their forthcoming debut project TREK with the release of their first leading single CAREDBRAH.
The single is a direct leap into the ever-evolving sonic landscape the group have built, containing fragments of their earlier singles G-SHOCK and HARDSTYLE, but this time, packed with a hefty, undeviating punch. Bound together by moody, melodic chords and brazen lyricism, the song speaks on the essence of true friendship. Existing in a world that will unpredictably throw twists and turns at you, causing your path to swerve in a different direction to that of your friends, the song is an ode to mateship in its purest and most earnest form.
In a press release, the band expanded on how deep the webs go on CAREDBRAH, explaining that the song reflects on a “ friendship between two kids headed down opposing paths”.
“A decade later, one in an Armani suit at work drinks and the other smashing a servo pie for lunch, they still turn to each other for an honesty that newer friends fail to deliver."
Shady Nasty’s introspective commentary on masculinity, on and offline footprints, brands and culture speak to a realised, precise statement that encompasses their debut project TREK. Built up through 8 tracks, and a 21-minute run time, TREK puts the journey of the group under a microscope. Merging universal stories of friendship, the unrealism of a healthy work-life balance, growing older, chasing innocence and imposter syndrome, TREK feeds the three-headed beast that Shady Nasty possesses, treating toughness with tenderness.
Speaking on the CAREDBRAH music video, directed by drummer Luca Watson and Harry Welsh, the band said: "CAREDBRAH’s music video sets adrift on hypnotic and subconscious vignettes of Shady Nasty’s Sydney; whether it be the ritual beauty of heavy exercise or of washing a beloved car in suburbia, the clip seeks solitude, real or imagined, that might reset and restore our mind."
