What?

I’ve been missing seeing you guys. My community! I wanna chat, I wanna play some music, I want to see how you’re all doing. Touch some grass n that. Sometimes the more people there are, the more anonymous we can become, so let’s keep it intimate for now. Small capacity, few nights in a row, residency style. Me, you and my band. Give you a first experience of this new album! We’re gonna call these little shows “Redstar Wu’s Neighbourhood Jams.” See ya there x

Seven-time ARIA Award winner Genesis Owusu has cemented his place as one of the most exciting and boundary-pushing voices in music. Known for his genre-defying sound, striking visuals, and commanding live performances, the Ghanaian-Australian artist continues to rise as an anti-hero of the global alternative music scene.

His resolute 2021 debut, Smiling With No Teeth, was a cultural reset. A fearless exploration of identity, experimenting with funk, punk and rap. The album swept the ARIA Awards with four wins, including Album of the Year and earned acclaim from The Guardian, Rolling Stone, NME and Anthony Fantano’s Needle Drop. Its standout track, “Gold Chains” was even named along  President Obama’s Favourite Music of 2021. Early 2022 saw his U.S. late-night television debut on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

In 2023, Owusu reinterpreted his debut with a landmark, sold-out orchestral performance at the Sydney Opera House, before releasing his sophomore album STRUGGLER. The record debuted at #4 on the ARIA Album Chart, received praise from Paste, NPR, Billboard and Alternative Press, and secured three more ARIA Awards - Album of the Year, Best Independent Release and Best Hip Hop / Rap Release.

2024 marked another high point – Owusu earned two gold plaques in Australia for singles “Good Times” and “WUTD,” and headlined Vivid Sydney with immersive, sold-out shows that cemented his status as one of Australia’s most visionary live performers.

He’s shared stages with Tame Impala, Paramore, IDLES and Bloc Party and appeared at some of the world’s most iconic festivals and venues, including; Lollapalooza, Primavera Sound, Austin City Limits, Mad Cool, Boston Calling. Between US and European headline runs, Owusu has dominated the Australian festival scene playing some of the biggest stages at Splendour in the Grass, Meredith Music Festival, Field Day, Groovin The Moo, Spilt Milk, Harvest Rock, as well as national headline runs and sold-out performances at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall with Sydney Symphony.

With new music incoming, Genesis Owusu continues to push boundaries and redefine what it means to be an artist today.
