"I'm not going to pre-empt the outcome of that process partway through the investigation."

The future of Adelaide's iconic Thebarton Theatre is still unclear, with South Australian Premier Steven Marshall again weighing into the discussion today.

News emerged on earlier this month that the much-loved theatre was under threat of demolition to make way for a new road upgrade and now Marshall has come under fire for saying the theatre "must be protected [and] it must never be bulldozed" during a video for the building's 90th anniversary last year.

"Let's not get carried away by this issue," he told ABC Radio today

"There's an investigation away … I'm not going to pre-empt the outcome of that process partway through the investigation."

Nick Horvat, who plays bass in local band West Thebarton, that demolishing the much-loved venue would "leave a craterous hole in the foundation of Adelaide music" in an opinion piece he wrote for The Music recently.

The Change.org petition calling for the building to be saved has now surpassed 56,000 signatures, see it here.
