Music icons Rodrigo y Gabriela are preparing to return to Australia next year. Today, they announced a national tour for April 2025.

Starting the tour at Brisbane’s Playhouse at QPAC on Sunday, 13 April, the tour continues at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre on Monday, 14 April, Anita’s Theatre in Thirroul on Wednesday, 16 April, the Canberra Theatre Centre on Thursday, 17 April, Adelaide’s The Gov on Monday, 21 April, and ends at Melbourne’s Northcote Theatre on Wednesday, 23 April.

Making their return to Australia for the first time since 2018, it follows tours that have seen the duo perform at Bluesfest Byron Bay and sold-out shows at venues such as the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Pre-sale tickets will be available from Wednesday, 27 November, at 11 am AEDT – sign up to the Bluesfest Tours website to access pre-sale tickets. The general sale begins on Thursday, 28 November, at 11 am AEDT – you can find more ticketing information here.

Rodrigo y Gabriela are Grammy Award-winning guitar virtuosos known for their electrifying instrumental performances. The Mexican-born duo are touring in support of their most recent project, In Between Thoughts… A New World, which was released last year.

The album paired the duo’s signature dual-guitar style with a full orchestra, allowing Rodrigo y Gabriela to create an immersive and cinematic sound that has resonated with audiences worldwide.

Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero formed as a duo after the dissolution of their first band. Starting their new venture by busking on Dublin’s Grafton Street, the pair caught the attention of singer-songwriter Damien Rice, who invited them to open for him on his tour.

The pair have released a series of acclaimed albums, including Re-Foc (2002), Area 52 (2012), 9 Dead Alive (2014), and Mettavolution (2020), which saw them receive a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album.

Catching Rodrigo y Gabriela at Bluesfest in 2015, The Music’s Steve Bell, Ruby Humberstone, Michelle Padovan, and BF Pierce said the duo “can sure coax some massive sounds out of their nylon strings, and it’s borderline surreal watching the huge Mojo Tent completely transfixed by two lone figures and their upbeat instrumentals.”

The reviewers added, “They have a huge presence despite travelling so light, and when they introduce some vocals during well-received covers of Silverchair’s Tomorrow and Radiohead’s Creep, it brings a whole new complexion to the equation, although they return quickly to their more traditional waters much to their followers’ frenzied delight.”
