Richard Clapton Plots 17th Annual Sydney State Theatre Show

“My my – how time flies when you’re havin’ fun!" Clapton says of his annual State Theatre show.

Perennial Aussie rock icon Richard Clapton will be returning to the stage this July, delivering his annual live celebration at Sydney’s State Theatre.

Having first launched his musical career back in the 1960s, it wasn’t until 1973 that Clapton launched his debut solo album, with Prussian Blue eluding the Australian charts, but serving as an auspicious showing of what was to come in the following decades.

As myriad albums, singles, and live performances followed, so too did an induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 1999. However, while some artists might view that as an opportunity to rest upon those not insignificant laurels, Clapton was far from done, waiting almost another whole decade before he launched a now-enduring tradition.

Taking to Sydney’s State Theatre in June 2008 for his 35th anniversary celebration, the iconic venue has become the gift that keeps on giving, with Clapton kicking off annual visits to that storied stage, bringing with him decades of songs, stories, and showmanship.

Now in its 17th year, Clapton will return to the State Theatre on July 25th, an opportunity he welcomes with open arms.

“My my – how time flies when you’re havin’ fun!” he enthused in a statement. “These 17 years at The State Theatre have always been a benchmark of my career, because the three hour show allows me to gather the best musicians Australia has to offer and to showcase their musicianship.

“It also allows me the latitude to showcase some of my best songs, many of which I never get to play in other venues. To make it even more special, on this long ride, are the audiences – many of whom first came to see this concert in 2008 and are still coming to this special gig every year. Love you all – see you back at The State on 25th July.”

The anticipated evening will see Clapton in his band performing two sets over the course of the evening, with tickets to the show going on sale from 10am AEDT on Monday 9th March, and a pre-sale for Ticketmaster members launching from 10am local time on Thursday, March 5th.
