After it was recently announced that a spin-off of the critically acclaimed New Zealand comedy What We Do In The Shadows is in the works, film star Rhys Darby has opened up on the details of the film.
In an interview with The Music, Darby, who played werewolf Anton in the mockumentary, confirmed that he hopes to return for the spin-off which would focus on the wolfpack.
"Well that’s the idea, yeah," Darby said.
"I’ve spoken with Jemaine [Clement] and he’s definitely keen to get it made. They had so much fun with the vamp one. And just the idea of a really nerdy bunch of werewolves hanging out, and following them in their daily lives – and their problems with their wives and partners – and [seeing] how they get through life working in IT during the day and then strapping themselves to trees at night so they don’t kill people is very funny.

"They’ve got the title [recently announced as We’re Wolves] and now it’s just about finding the time to make it. So, you know, I’m definitely gonna be available for that. I’ve gotta be in the wolf pack."
A film start date is yet to be announced or even confirmed which isn't surprising, given that director Taika Waititi will next be taking on the third installment of Marvel's Thor franchise, Thor: Ragnarok.
Any chance we'll see Darby in that one?
"I doubt it," the 42-year-old comic chuckles.
"That’s one thing that I think he has less control over is a huge studio behemoth beast like that. Um, I wouldn’t expect to. Maybe if I could play the hammer? I don’t think I’ll be expecting a call for that one."
Darby also stars in Waititi's latest film, Hunt For The Wilderpeople. Check out our review here.
