Beloved Brisbane trio Regurgitator will celebrate 20 years since the release of their seminal second album, Unit, this October with a special performance, dubbed Unit20, at the upcoming EB Expo at the Gold Coast.

The band will be joined by fellow veterans Art Vs Science and the boundary-pushers of 7Bit Hero for the show, with all three bands collaborating to create a state-of-the-art, 3D-integrated "sensory experience".

"We could not be more excited to have the opportunity to bring Unit20 to the Gold Coast for an exclusive, once-in-a-lifetime show," event manager Trent Weekes said in a statement.

"This is truly a historic musical event that will kick off a huge weekend of entertainment at the EB Expo. There will be no better place to be the second weekend of October."

Describing the album as "but a pixel in time" in a typically enigmatic statement, Regurgitator said that the Unit20 collab with EB Games "strives for a unique multi-dimensional ocular moment, the only live revisitation we will emit across this double-decade point in time… and even more the gratification to be joined in this celebration by musical compatriots Art Vs Science along with 7Bit Hero to help transmit the light and sound. Pong on, indeed!"

Unit was originally released in November 1997, swiftly being re-released the following year as a deluxe edition called Unit Re-Booted, which included the album's five video clips. The album reached triple Platinum status — aided by its inclusion of their hugely successful single, Polyester Girl — and won a none-too-shabby five ARIA Awards, including Album Of The Year, at the 1998 event.

The full-length marked a distinct shift in direction for the band, and its impact endures to this day, facts that have not escaped their erudite notice.

"First conveyed into the live stratosphere at a ski club in the northern climes of Darwin on a balmy Halloween eve, this self-effacing monster of a retrotech platter stirred the self-styled opening jeer of I Like Your Old Stuff Better Than Your New Stuff, tumbling all that chose to follow into the rapidly embraced new stuff of beeps, blips and all out pop-rockin' fun," the band said in their statement.

"Unit resolutely found its link in the musical DNA of the day and, 20 years down the track, this yellow dot still glows with all the intensity it rose that day to greet us with."

Regurgitator, Art Vs Science and 7Bit Hero will perform Unit20 at the Gold Coast Convention & Exhibition Centre on Friday 6 October.

The wider EB Expo takes place from 7-8 October; see the event's website for more information.
