"I reckon there might even be a chance for regional Queensland to see it up close in person," Queensland Premier David Crisafulli teased Powderfinger's upcoming reunion tour on social media.

It’s the news we never thought we’d see, but after 16 years, Powderfinger have reunited, and on Monday (12 October), they’ll be announcing their long-awaited tour dates.

According to a new social media video posted by Queensland Premier David Crisafulli, the tour may even go regional – singer Bernard Fanning wasn’t kidding when he said the band would stop “all around Australia” next year.

When asked about Powderfinger reuniting, Crisafulli said he loves the band and still thinks the band’s Sunsets show in Townsville “is still the best concert I ever went to.”

Adding that he's busy these days, Crisafulli said he still plans to see a show on their reunion tour and then dropped a major teaser about the band’s itinerary.

“I’ll let the band do the announcement that they deserve to make, because they are absolute Queensland legends,” he continued.

“We’ve been working in the background with them on this, and I think there is the potential for something that could be a night to remember, and I reckon there might even be a chance for regional Queensland to see it up close in person.”

It’s been an incredible week for Powderfinger fans. It started with cryptic billboards appearing across the country, featuring statistics about the band amid a sea of jumbled letters and numbers. It continued with a mysterious Instagram account resharing photos and videos of the billboards, along with clips posted straight to social media.

The Instagram account, @thereturnoftheelectrichorsemen, is named after the band’s song (The Return of) the Electric Horseman, the last track from Powderfinger’s 1996 album Double Allergic.

This week, before announcing their official reunion on Friday (9 October), the band revealed they’d been behind the Instagram account that had been posting teasers.

Yesterday, frontman Bernard Fanning revealed that Powderfinger would “do some shows all around Australia from September next year.”

He added, “We always said that, if we were going to get back together to do some shows, that you guys would be the first to know.”

Guitarist Darren Middleton said, “We’re going to build something pretty special just for you guys. We’ll see you from the stage.”
