Queens Of The Stone Age vocalist and Eagles Of Death Metal drummer Josh Homme has revealed his recent cancer diagnosis and surgery in a new interview.
Discussing new music, a custody battle with ex-wife Brody Dalle (of The Distillers), and more, Homme also told Revolver about his own health issues that he faced in 2022.
Homme revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer last year, but he didn't get into too many details. However, he did inform Revolver that he underwent a successful surgery to remove it and he's still recovering.
“I never say it can’t get any worse. I never say that, and I wouldn’t advise it,” Homme began. “But I do say it can get better.
“Cancer is just the cherry on top of an interesting time period, you know? I’m extremely thankful that I’ll get through this, and I’ll look back at this as something that’s fucked up — but will have made me better. I’m cool with that.
“There’s a lot of stuff I want to do. And there’s a lot of people I want to do that with.”

Music helped the singer get through the scary times surrounding the diagnosis and subsequent surgery, with Homme adding, “I’ve got nothing against therapy. I just don’t go because I play [music] instead.
“Over the last couple years, I’ve done a lot of therapy, but at the end of the day, I understand how to proceed, moving forward with the religion that I use — music.”
Homme continued, “This has been the darkest four years of my life. But that’s OK, too.
"In the heartaches, my mistakes, these deaths and my own physical things I’m dealing with — even though all that has occurred and smashed my old life to pieces, those pieces I’ve been able to build into a ship that’s about to launch. I will float into my new life from all those pieces.”
Homme's turning something scary into art evolved into the new Queens Of The Stone Age album, In Times New Roman…. Homme will also return to Australia and New Zealand in July and August for Eagles Of Death Metal’s first shows down under since 2016. You can find out more about those shows here.
In Times New Roman… will be released this Friday, 16 June, via Remote Control Records in Australia and Matador on a global scale.
Homme and bandmates Troy Van Leeuwen, Dean Fertita, Michael Shuman and Jon Theodore came together to create “the sound of a band creating the music its own members want to hear while giving the rest of us a sonic forum in which to congregate” on the new album.
In Times New Roman... was recorded and mixed at Homme’s own Pink Duck Studios (RIP), with additional recording at Shangri-La. The album was produced by Queens Of The Stone Age and mixed by Mark Rankin. You can pre-order a physical release of the album or pre-save it here.
