Prince's Estate & Jay Z's Tidal Butt Heads Over Late Singer's Catalogue

Trouble is brewing

More Prince More Prince

Prince's estate and Jay Z's Roc Nation/Tidal are clashing over the streaming rights to the late legend's music, despite a recent deal with Universal Music Publishing Group that gave UMPG the exclusive rights to Prince's entire music catalogue.

As Rolling Stone reports, the catalogue has been streaming exclusively on Tidal since 2015, but Prince's estate have now filed a petition stating their in-house publishing would work with UMPG in the new deal, bringing the Tidal exclusivity into threat.

Meanwhile, TMZ reports that Prince's estate filed another petition alleging Roc Nation and Tidal have been streaming 15 of Prince's albums without authorisation. They report that Tidal only has authorisation to stream Prince's last record, Hit N Run: Phase 1.
