The Music chooses one song every week as its Power Pick, shining a light on ONE Aussie song that we think has the potential to be the next big Australian chart hit.

Our Power Pick committee consists of Richard Kingsmill (consultant and former triple j Group Music Director), Maddy Rowe (Nova nights announcer), Nic Kelly (Hit Network nights announcer), Ash McGregor (host of Listen Up with Ash McGregor), Kent “Smallzy” Small (Host of ‘The Smallzy Show’ on the Kiis Network), Irene Hulme (radio consultant and host of Game Changers Radio podcast) and Ollie Wards (ex-Head of Music for TikTok Australia).

He’s not even out of his teenage years, and already Lane Pittman has managed to carve out a musical career that many could only dream of.

Burst onto the scene in 2022 at the age of 15 when he appeared on The Voice, Pittman's profile quickly grew. Singles soon gave way to an EP on the Chugg Music roster, before taking out New Artist Of The Year at the 2025 Golden Guitars.

Add in that spectacular 12 months spent touring alongside myriad big names both at home and abroad, and it’s clear that Pittman is readying himself for another big year in 2026. In fact, he’s already readying the release of his second EP, WHAT NOW?, on March 6th, giving fans a taste of what’s to come by way of the recently-released Meet You In The Morning.

Written alongside Benny Morrell and Robby De Sa, it’s an impressive piece of work that harnesses his arresting vocals with heartfelt lyrics that speak to leaving home and waking up alone in hotel rooms; missing moments and milestones along the way.

While his self-titled debut might have been by some as the result of fortuitous momentum, both WHAT NOW? and Meet You In The Morning prove that Pittman is operating as his true self, and impressing everyone along the way.

Pittman will also be touring the country in March and April in support of the new EP, before heading to the US for an appearance at California’s Stagecoach Festival at the end of the month. Local tour details are below, with tickets on sale now.

Previous Power Picks

We’ve seen an impressive run from the artists featured in our previous Power Picks in the recent weeks and months, with plenty doing impressive numbers not just on streaming and commercial radio, but the charts as well.

Over on the Radio Monitor Hot 100 at the moment, there’s a strong showing of local talent, with Sonny Fodera, D.O.D & Poppy Baskcomb’s Think About Us sitting pretty at its current peak of #3 – nine spots higher than Tame Impala’s Dracula at a respectable #12.

There's a fair representation of other Aussies in the mix, including Yes Boone at #19 with All I Really Want, and Keli Holiday's Dancing2 at #32. New Zealand-born, Melbourne-raised ROSÉ can be found at #35 with her Bruno Mars collab APT., while The Kid LAROI & Lithe can be found with RATHER BE.

Guy Sebastian makes a new debut at #38 with 100 Times Around The Sun, followed by Mia Wray's When We Were Young, while CYRIL & Maryjo's Still Into You is at #43, followed directly by MAY-A and Catching Up 2 U.
