aleksiahThe Music chooses one song every week as its Power Pick, shining a light on ONE Aussie song that we think has the potential to be the next big Australian chart hit.
Our Power Pick committee consists of Richard Kingsmill (consultant and former triple j Group Music Director), Maddy Rowe (Nova nights announcer), Nic Kelly (Hit Network nights announcer), Ash McGregor (host of Listen Up with Ash McGregor), Kent “Smallzy” Small (Host of ‘The Smallzy Show’ on the Kiis Network), Irene Hulme (radio consultant and host of Game Changers Radio podcast) and Ollie Wards (ex-Head of Music for TikTok Australia).
Fresh from the release of last year’s Cry About It EP, Adelaide’s own aleksiah returned last week with her third EP in as many years, unveiling the stellar Good On Paper.
A five-song collection of her indie anthems which blur the edges between pop and rock, the EP was preceded by the likes of Faker, Punch Drunk Love, and Bullsh*t, Baby!, and was complemented by the likes of the newly-issued Think About It and Be The Diva.
“Good On Paper felt a lot like a big diary entry as I was writing it, it all came out within the span of a couple weeks,” aleksiah said of the new EP. “I was feeling deeply insecure about how perfect other people’s lives seemed, and wanted to write a collection of songs that explored the ugly foundations hiding underneath the brand new carpet.

“Troubles with love/sex, anxiety and mental illness, societal standards, hiding behind facades, and working through all of it to get to the other side. I want people to listen to this EP and feel that they’re not alone, and hope that they know being good on paper will never be as important as being good to yourself.”
However, it’s the newly-released Be The Diva which undoubtedly captures the attention of newcomers to aleksiah’s world, with the track showcasing her innate ability to deliver slick hooks and choruses, all while sitting atop a disco-adjacent backing which resonates long after it finishes.
"Put aleksiah on a playlist next to Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, and Dua Lipa, and she oozes just as much of that ‘world class pop superstar energy’ as the greats do,” says Maddy Rowe. “Be The Diva is as witty and sparkly as pop songs come."
aleksiah will be hitting the road this week for her Good On Paper launch tour, with tickets on sale now.
