There's nothing scare about Portrayal Of Guilt's new blackened attack.
In November 2018, Texas' Portrayal Of Guilt became underground heavy music heroes with the skin-peeling intensity of their 'Let Pain Be Your Guide' LP. Well, there's no time like the present and there's no rest for the wicked, so now eight months down the line, the American quartet are gearing up to drop the 'Suffering Is A Gift' EP, out August 30th via Closed Casket Activities.
The first lethal cut from this forthcoming six-track EP is 'Scarcity'. Starting life out as a busy, blackened-hardcore skramz tune, 'Scarcity' barrels through at a brisk pace, eventually finding a groovy, dissonant mid-section full of gang vocals and tortured screams and ominous melodic layers firing down. All before the brutal piece quickly descends into a pounding death metal section before buzzing swarms of carrion flies fills your ears as it comes to a close.
It's a song asking you what you believe in; decrying that "we are more alone than we think" and how humans have poisoned one another's minds. It's grim, it's short, it's savage, and it's fuckin' sick: it sounds like desolation, like pure immolation. 'Scarcity' is just another hectic, hopeless dosage of Portrayal Of Guilt, and I'm more than a-okay with that.
