Having celebrated its massive 40th birthday this March, Port Fairy Folk Festival is back in 2017 and has just unveiled their first set of acts.
Leading the 41st Port Fairy party will be Cold Chisel's Don Walker, having penned songs like Cheap Wine and Saturday Night with the band. He'll be stepping out on his own for his first time at Port Fairy, alongside Austrian percussionist and Hang virtuoso Manu Delago. Delago has played with the likes of Bjork and Anoushka Shankar during his career.
Grammy-winning folk singer/songwriter Patty Griffin has also joined the fold — she'll be bringing her ninth studio album Servant Of Love to the stage. She's been covered by numerous musicians like Dixie Chicks, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Missy Higgins over the years, as well as worked with Emmylou Harris, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings.
Rounding out our first artist announce are Deborah Conway & Willy Zygier (currently touring), as well as Aussie folk rockers The Waifs, 24-year-old Virginian singer Dori Freeman, roots multi-instrumentalist Tash Sultana, Scot Eddi Reader, Folk Uke, Gawurra, Irishman Mundy, Natty Man & Gara, The Pinks playing the blues, Sarah Carroll & The Left Wing and Vika & Linda Bull.
Program director Caroline Moore says of the 2017 festival, "I’m excited by the potential of the artistic collaborations that will happen only at Port Fairy this year. There will be some very special one off events that won’t be repeated ever again so watch this space!"
