More Pink More Pink

P!nk paid tribute to Olivia Newton-John at the American Music Awards yesterday, performing a rendition of the Grease classic tune, Hopelessly Devoted To You.

While she sang, a montage of images of Newton-John played on a screen - the Australian music icon died from breast cancer in August. P!nk's performance was met with a standing ovation.

The Funhouse singer was introduced by Melissa Etheridge - who underwent surgery and chemotherapy following her breast cancer diagnosis - who praised Olivia Newton-John's "sweetness" and star power.

"You stood in awe of her welcoming beauty, and you basked in the feeling that she was connecting to you alone. But when she opened her mouth to sing, you knew instantly you'd have to share her with the world," Etheridge shared [via Rolling Stone]. "As her tens of millions of fans will attest, to hear her sing — whether live at a theatre or up on the silver screen — was to feel the power of art to transform the feelings we all have of love, of elation, and disappointment into something sublime.

"In tribute to the fantastic and talented Olivia and performing Hopelessly Devoted To You, please welcome P!nk," she said.

P!nk shared a photo of her and Olivia Newton-John after she passed away in a touching tribute, with a caption that read, "I met her maybe three times- and she was an absolute angel. One of the loveliest, kindest, light from within human beings I have ever met. Kindness personified. May she Rest In Peace and may her family be held in love and light during this difficult time."

Olivia Newton-John's passing was confirmed by her husband, John Easterling, in a post on Facebook

A singer, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, and activist, Newton-John was a multiple-time Grammy Award-winner with a legacy of hits including Physical, and I Honestly Love You. Her 1981 single Physical was a worldwide smash hit. Accompanied by one of the most instantly recognisable video clips ever made, for which it received the Grammy for 'video of the year, Physical is a cornerstone of early '80s pop.

Since being diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992, Newton-John dedicated much of her time to supporting efforts and raising funds to find a cure for cancer. Newton-John's work in that space includes the establishment of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne and the Olivia Newton-John Foundation.
