I"t’s an honour because we grew up on Savage Garden."
(Peking Duk by Billy Zammit, Darren Hayes by James Reese)
Peking Duk have remixed the Savage Garden classic tune, I Want You, with none other than the original vocalist, Darren Hayes, re-recording his vocals for the reimagined track.
The Aussie electronic music duo announced the collaboration on their Peking Duk Podcast on Tuesday. Adam Hyde revealed, "Our new song, I Want You is featuring Darren Hayes from Savage Garden."
Reuben Styles added, "They released that song 25 years ago, we remixed it and then got all the parts replayed including Darren himself came and joined us in the studio in Santa Monica and resung every part and it was the funnest studio session of all time."
Hyde commented on how much the collaboration meant to him, calling it an "honour" as the group "grew up on Savage Garden."
The 1997 melody to I Want You remain intact, with some little flourishes calling to Peking Duk's signature stylings. Check it out below.
Last month, Peking Duk announced their first national tour since 2019.
