The first episode of A Life In Lyrics is based on the Beatles classic, Eleanor Rigby, and finds McCartney breaking down the lyrics and the subconscious stumbling upon the song title.
A Life In Lyrics also stars McCartney in conversation with poet Paul Muldoon, who collaborated with the musician on his 2021 bestselling book, The Lyrics: 1956 To The Present.
As well as Eleanor Rigby, the first season of A Life In Lyrics will explore the background behind Back In The U.S.S.R, Let It Be, Penny Lane, Live And Let Die, Helter Skelter, and more. Season two will arrive in February 2024, with McCartney and Muldoon lifting the curtain behind another twelve songs written by McCartney.
You can listen to the first episode of A Life In Lyrics below.
“There is a grave which John and I wandered around endlessly talking about our future,” McCartney said during the podcast. “And there is a grave there [with the name Eleanor Rigby]. I don’t remember ever having seen that gravestone, but it’s been suggested to me that psychologically, I would have seen it.”
