As she gears up to conquer her third round of breast cancer, local musicians and peers have rallied around Melbourne music industry veteran Mel McNamara to put on a benefit gig to boost her spirits and assist the family during a trying time.

Mel Fest will feature none other than Paul Dempsey taking the stage for a solo and acoustic set, alongside Glenn Richards Five Piece, Dan Kelly (solo), Dan Brodie Duo and Krista Polvere.

Polvere is a close friend of McNamara and says, "Having her closest mates by her side is helping Mel a great deal. She's the kindest soul I've ever met and has been there for me consistently in so many ways.

"Our friendship is unique and there are some people who you know your lives are meant to be shared with forever. Thanks for being my rock Mel, I hope I'm being yours."

McNamara moved to Melbourne from Adelaide over two decades ago and has worked as a photographer and in magazine production, while her husband Andrew "Skipper" Skim worked as a lighting technician for Augie March, Meredith and Golden Plains.

Mel Fest will be held at Croxton Bandroom on 7 April from 8pm.
