#weneedscience
If you follow Passion Pit on Twitter, odds are you've noticed a distinctly scientific bent to the account — currently using the hashtag and moniker "#weneedscience" — today.
That's because, as Spin has already noted, sole studio member Michael Angelakos turned the band's feed over to neuroscientist Michael F. Wells yesterday (AEST), as well as fellow scientists Max Salick and Renee Wurth (who also works as a dietitian), and they've been fielding questions over the past several hours, with mental health as the primary point of focus over the course of the takeover.
What has ensued has been a deep, thoughtful, active discourse that has touched on everything from the efficacy of therapy and medication to the benefits of a balanced diet and beyond, and highlighted the need for consistently reaffirmed awareness and understanding of such issues.
But it's not just the social media account that Angelakos has gotten generous with: he also made an offer of a free digital download of new album — or possibly just its title track — Tremendous Sea Of Love to those who retweeted his original post about the initiative (and replied with their email).

The record has not yet been properly released, but surfaced online earlier this year as a series of videos uploaded by The Wishart Group, a company founded by Angelakos to provide legal, educational and health support services to struggling musicians. (Again, it's unclear whether he's offering the full album or just the one song but, either way, you score free music.)
The back-and-forth still seems to be going, so to spare you an absolute tweet storm below, head over to Passion Pit's Twitter page and work that grey matter. For science, you monsters.
