NZ Partygoers Tricked Into Thinking Local Artist Was Lorde After "Special" Performance

New Zealand partygoers have been tricked into believing a local artist performing a Lorde song was the global pop star herself following a performance on Monday night

As NZ Herald reports, after teasing that a "special guest" would make an appearance, many attendees at a 'No Lights No Lycra' party in Grey Lynn believed that the Grammy Award-winner was in front of them when a female singer took to the stage to perform Lorde's latest track, Green Light.

However, as Lorde pointed out soon after, she wasn't at the party, or even in New Zealand for that matter. 

"Weird - we are in London rn," Lorde's mother, Sonja Yelich, tweeted. 

The 20-year-old singer followed suit, writing on Twitter, "This is deeply fake news but quite cute lol".

Party organiser Craig Neilson confirmed the news on the party's Facebook page earlier today, revealing that the artist who did perform was local singer Hannah Horsfield.

"Cat's out of the bag! Last night's event was totally incredible and I want to thank everyone involved," the Facebook post reads.

"Most of all I want to thank our incredible performer, Hannah Grace Horsfield who is graduating from Auckland University's pop music degree in May, and of course Lorde for the phenomenon that is Green Light."
