Sydney band doing battle with The Strokes, Justin Timberlake

Sydney band Northlane are in with a real shot of debuting at number one on the ARIA Albums Chart this week, according to midweek figures.

Coming off a well-orchestrated release campaign, Singularity's first week scans have been incredibly impressive so far – particularly physical copies. The metalcore outfit's main competition comes from New York indie legends The Strokes, who released Comedown Machine last week and are looking for their second consecutive number one, as well as current number one Justin Timberlake's The 20/20 Experience.

Achieving Gold accreditation in the first week, Timberlake's likely to attract strong digital sales this week and is currently top of the iTunes chart.

Other strong debuts this week will come from British India, with Controller, and Emma Louise, with Vs. Head Vs. Heart. The figures indicate that both albums are aiming to crack the top ten, but they're a little behind the sales of Northlane, who have a genuine shot at the top rung.

In the ARIA Singles Chart Passenger's Let Her Go will be looking to take top spot from Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' Can't Hold Us. Getting close last week, the UK singer/songwriter's resurgence will have to compete with MKTO, Rihanna, Nelly and a new track from will.i.am and Justin Bieber. Let Her Go is still the number one track on iTunes though, which does suggest it hasn't peaked just yet.
