More Northlane More Northlane

Northlane's Josh Smith has finally scored a guitar that rids him of maintenance issues that commonly plague the seven-string instruments of his choice, thanks to Jackson Guitars.

The Pro Series Signature Josh Smith Soloist SL7 ET provides the Carbonized player with the thunderous tone he's after, promises reliability, and retains clarity no matter how far you down-tune the guitar.

"Jackson makes incredibly consistent and stable instruments. They intonate well, they hold tune on the road and the guitars never seem to break," Smith said. "Having a signature soloist is a dream come true. I purposely kept the design very subtle. It’s a great companion for anyone tuning low who wants a little versatility. It’s both an ideal studio guitar and great for the stage!"

Jon Romanowski, VP for Category Management - Jackson, added: "It was a great experience to work with Josh to recreate one of Jackson’s most iconic shapes in his image. Although Josh makes it look effortless, taking an arsenal of drop-tuned, long-scale instruments on the road is no easy feat.

"The true beauty behind this instrument is the way in which it takes a problem that heavy metal guitarists have been running into for years—the unreliable nature of 7-string guitars—and provides an elegant, one-stop solution. Fans are going to love replicating Smith’s iconic sound into a style all their own."

While fans may love the idea of replicating Smith's sound, they may need to take out a loan to buy the guitar. The Pro Series Signature Josh Smith SoloistTM SL7 ET, Ebony Fingerboard costs $2,699.99 USD, £1,599.00 GBP, €1,849.00 EUR, and $4,999.00 AUD. Find more details about the guitar here.

Northlane took out their second ARIA #1 album as they debuted in the top spot with Obsidian earlier this year. The metalcore band’s sixth album came three years on from Alien (#3, August 2019), which won Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album at the 2019 ARIA Awards. Obsidian was self-produced by the band. Northlane first hit #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with Node (#1, August 2015).

Northlane are embarking on a huge regional Australian tour this month - don't miss out. More details here.
