A new edition of the NITV program Sounds Of Solidarity will launch later this month, arriving to continue showcasing the best of First Nations music and cultures.

Set to broadcast on January 26th on NITV, Sounds Of Solidarity is a three-hour broadcast which celebrates the powerful and enduring legacy of music and culture from First Nations identities.

Guest hosted by rapper Nooky, singer/songwriter Naomi Wenitong (of Shakaya and The Last Kinection fame), and media personality Megan Waters, the new edition will focus on the best of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music.

Filmed on Larrakia Country/Darwin in the Northern Territory, this edition will feature songs from artists such as King Stingray, Yothu Yindi, Jessica Mauboy, Miss Kannina, Baker Boy, Becca Hatch, and Electric Fields, with more set to appear on the broadcast as well.

Sounds Of Solidarity has broadcast for years now as a way to ensure that some of the best Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists receive a platform for their music to be heard. Previous editions have featured the work of BAARKA, Jimblah, and others, alongside music videos from veteran acts such as Yothu Yindi, Warumpi Band, and Christine Anu.

The latest edition of Sounds Of Solidarity airs as part of the NITV’s upcoming week of curated broadcasting focused on exploring the history, strength and survival of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The program joins the likes of the One Mind One Heart documentary on January 23rd, the award-winning coming-of-age film Sweet As, and other important broadcasts throughout the week.

“January 26 is a moment that connects the past to the present as Australians increasingly reflect on the history and complexity of this date for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and contemporary Australia,” explains Tanya Denning-Orman, a proud Birri and Guugu Yimidhirr woman and SBS Director of Indigenous Content.

“Through our distinctive programming and coverage across NITV and the entire SBS network we’re proud to be presenting unapologetically Blak perspectives, showcasing stories of strength and survival, and providing an opportunity for all Australians to connect with the world’s oldest living continuous culture.”

Sounds Of Solidarity premieres on NITV at 2.20pm on Sunday, January 26th.
