The annual Newtown Festival returns for its 39th year next month, and organisers have revealed 2017's extensive program of multi-sensory delights.
Spanning music, art, markets, food and more, the Newtown Festival caters to a diversity of tastes and interests. On the soundtrack front, this year's line-up — curated in collaboration with respected singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko and local bookers Nathan Farrell Entertainment — is a wonderfully eclectic collection of emerging and established talent.
Feast your ears on sounds from the likes of Spit Syndicate, MEZKO, Jep & Dep, I Know Leopard, Jack Colewell, Food Court, Cody Munro Moore and more, while you sate your taste buds with offerings from 212 Blu, Black Market Roasters, Bloodwood, Continental Deli & Bistro, Fleetwood Macchiato (great name), Hartsyard, Mary's, Osteria di Russo & Russo, Queens Hotel, Rising Sun Workshop, Saga, Salmon & Bear, The Stinking Bishops and Young Henrys.
"I put my head together with some people whose opinions I value to create the music line-up for Newtown Festival 2017," Blasko said. "This year it was super important to put an even greater focus on the local community and atmosphere rather than it becoming just another festival. I believe this program to be a genuine expression of the Inner West music scene and we’ve aimed to make it as diverse as possible."
On the streets, the roving entertainment of La Toosh Tram & Stage will play home to a cast of musicians, artists and circus performers, or you can party on in the confines of Heaps Gay's Karaoke Closet.

For the animal lovers out there, the festival will welcome the return of the much-loved Dog Show, while those with progeny in tow will find respite in the Kids Zone, with activities from Charlotte Rose Hamlyn, the sounds of Newtown Primary School's GOODGOODNOTBAD (again, great name), Annandale Public School techno fiends Homewerk and more.
That's without even delving into the delights of the Eco Village, the Writers Tent or anything else that'll be packing out proceedings from 9.30am through 5.30pm on the day.
Newtown Festival is the primary fundraiser for the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, and for a measly $5 donation you can enjoy all the magnificence on offer at Camperdown Memorial Rest Park on Sunday 12 November.
“We are really excited about the diverse line up of talented inner westies who will be performing at this year’s Newtown Festival," NNC chief executive Liz Yeo said in a statement. "Their generosity is what makes this festival our Newtown Festival.
"It is their support, along with your generosity at the festival gates, which enables Newtown Neighbourhood Centre to continue providing frontline programs and services for people doing it most tough in the Inner West."
